Thank you for your interest in our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training. For registered yoga teachers, this training fulfills Yoga Alliance standards and leads to the new Yoga Alliance Prenatal Certification (http://yogaalliance.org/content/prenatal-standards ).

The complete training is 85 hours. We have broken it down into two 4 day trainings, Part 1 and Part 2.

Part 1 is open to yoga teachers interested in prenatal, birth professionals and prenatal yoga students. The training is 4 days and counts for 38 contact hours. We will focus on the pregnancy process, anatomy of the pregnant body particularly the pelvis, and how to work with pregnant women to help them enjoy their pregnancy and prepare for childbirth and labor. Graduates of Part 1 should feel prepared to work with pregnant students or clients to help alleviate basic pregnancy aches and pains. Graduates of Part 1 who are already yoga teachers will be able to teach a basic, safe prenatal yoga class. Special guests include  Dr. Jennifer McNulty, OBGYN of Long Beach Memorial and UC Irvine, and Susan Minich, CNM, LAc. Of Kaiser Permantente Hollywood and Burbank Healing Arts.

For those interested in taking it to the next level, we offer the 47 hour Part 2 training. This training is also 4 full days plus 10 non-contact hours of observation and assistant teaching outside of the 4 day workshop (trainees can either do these hours at their hometown yoga studio or with us at Silver Lake Yoga).  The training will focus on adjustment of asanas for pregnancy, prenatal vinyasa, pregnancy ailments and therapeutics, fetal positioning for labor, post-natal yoga and application of yogic philosophy to the motherhood experience. Graduates of this program should feel confident in creating their own prenatal yoga program with their own yoga style. Special Guests include Dr. Elliot Berlin D.C of Berlin Chiropractic and Erin Stanford-Moore, Ph.D. of U.S.C.

Our Philosophy on Prenatal Yoga: Pregnancy is not a hall pass to sit on the couch and eat for two. This is an important time for women to connect to their bodies and prepare for the physical and emotional challenges of labor and motherhood. Prenatal Yoga should help women build strength, release muscular tension, increase range of motion, learn kinesthetic awareness, bond with their unborn babies, connect with the breath and learn how to live in the present moment. Our students get a great workout, connect with the pregnant community and prepare for the upcoming challenges that they face.

Prenatal Teacher Training Philosophy: There are so many amazing styles of yoga being offered today. As we all know, there isn’t one “right” way to practice. Instead, some teachers and some practices resonate with some folks while another style and teacher might resonate with someone else. The same goes for prenatal yoga. We don’t want you to be cookie cutter “Silver Lake Yoga” prenatal teachers. We hope to share with you how to work with pregnant women in all trimesters safely and then show you how you to adapt your own yoga practice and/or teaching style to the pregnant community you are serving. This way you will LOVE what you teach and your students will LOVE your classes.

Fee: Part 1 is $600 and Part 2 is $700, totaling $1300 for the complete 85 hours. Sign up and pay for both trainings before January 1/ July 15 and get a $50 discount.

Schedule: We will be offering this training twice.  Part 1 February 2-5.  Part 2 March 1-4.  Part 1 August 23-26.   Part 2 September 20-23. You must take Part 1 prior to taking Part 2. For the registration form click here.
